QWO® Cellulite Treatment Philadelphia

Cellulite affects 90% of all women of all shapes, sizes, ages, and races. Many people think it’s tied to fat, but it’s not – no amount of diet and exercise will make that orange peel look go away. Fortunately, there is an injectable treatment that fights cellulite: QWO®. QWO (collagenase clostridium histolyticum-aaes) is the first FDA-approved (and only) injectable for treating moderate to severe cellulite in the buttocks of adult women. All it needs is three treatments, and injections take 10 minutes or less.

What Causes Cellulite?

Fibrous bands (also known as fibrous septae) are normally thin and tether the skin to the muscle. However, cellulite occurs when these bands thicken, causing the skin to pull downward. This process traps the fat cells between the bands, and they push up on the skin, resulting in depressions and a cottage cheese-like appearance on the skin surface. Cellulite primarily affects women, and these connective bands of tissue below the skin are the structural cause. Also, as women age, they tend to have thinner skin than men, which more readily reveals what lies beneath the surface.

How Does QWO® Cellulite Treatment Work?

Treatments for cellulite up to this point have had little effectiveness, and ranged from topical lotions to minimally invasive procedures such as Cellfina. QWO is the first of its kind injectable to treat cellulite and a complete game-changer because it’s quick, easy, and completely nonsurgical.

QWO repairs cellulite-dimpled skin in three ways:

  1. Injections are composed of naturally occurring enzymes (called collagenases) that dissolve the build-up of specific types of collagen in the fibrous bands that cause cellulite.
  2. Once the fibrous bands are broken, fat cells are redistributed, resulting in a smoother skin surface.
  3. QWO stimulates the new growth of collagen to produce healthier-looking and smoother skin.

The QWO® Procedure

In preparation for your treatment, we’ll cleanse the treatment area, and treatment can begin. QWO cellulite treatment is administered directly to the treatment area through tiny needles, and each side of the buttocks can receive up to 12 injections. The entire treatment process takes approximately 10 minutes. We’ll talk about what to expect after your procedure and when to schedule your next visit or follow-up appointment.

QWO® Results

QWO injections are given in three separate treatments, with each treatment session three weeks apart. Although results vary, patients often see improvement in the appearance of cellulite after the first session. Visible smoothing of the treatment areas improves over the subsequent two sessions. After the third session, the enzyme continues to work to break down more of the fibrous bands, so you’ll notice fewer and fewer cellulite dimples. You can expect full results four weeks after the third treatment, or 10 weeks after the start of treatment.

Benefits of QWO® Cellulite Treatment

Frequently Asked Renuvion Questions

For most patients, optimal results are achieved after three treatment visits, spaced three weeks apart.

Overall discomfort is temporary and minimal. Just like a BOTOX injection, there is an initial pinch and a small amount of pressure during your QWO treatment. Injections are virtually pain-free since there is more fat and fewer nerves in the buttocks.

In clinical trials, patients did not require any downtime. However, common side effects of QWO® may include significant injection site bruising, itching, swelling, and warmth in the treatment area. It may also become temporarily hard, red, or discolored. All side effects generally resolved on their own within 7-21 days, and bruising subsided in less than three weeks. The side effects tend to become less severe and resolve more quickly with each treatment session. Although rare, QWO does have a risk of more serious side effects. These include allergic (hypersensitivity) reactions, including anaphylaxis.

Since QWO is a new treatment, there aren’t any long-term results yet available. However, QWO is thought to produce lasting changes since it addresses the structural causes of cellulite. When QWO breaks the fibrous bands, it allows the fat to redistribute instead of trapped between them.

QWO has been studied in more patients than any other FDA-approved cellulite treatment, with over 1,800 women participating. The treatment was determined to be very safe and effective, with side effects on par with other cosmetic injectable treatments.

Currently, QWO is only approved to treat moderate to severe cellulite in the buttocks of adult women. Endo Aesthetics, the makers of QWO, is currently studying the effects of additional areas of treatment.

Most adult women with cellulite will benefit from QWO® injections. QWO is ideal when treating cellulite in patients with good skin elasticity. We’ll ask you some questions to determine if you are a good candidate for QWO during a free consultation at The Lumen Center. Before treatment, you should let your provider know if you are allergic to any components of QWO, including collagenase, or have any bleeding problems. You will review medications and should let us know if you are taking any medications, particularly any to prevent blood clotting. We’ll examine you to make sure the treatment area does not have an active infection. You’ll also be asked if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding.
