Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Photo Facial in Philadelphia, PA

Do you hide your skin’s imperfections under makeup or clothing? If so, there may be a solution that can reverse your photodamaged skin and rejuvenate your skin. Intense Pulse Light Laser Therapy (IPL), also known as a Photo Facial, can bring back a more youthful complexion with fewer wrinkles, brown spots, and erythema. Experience the transformative power of Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) with our revolutionary IPL Photo Facial treatment.

What Is the IPL Photo Facial?

This innovative procedure flashes a gentle broad-spectrum light to penetrate beneath the skin’s surface, targeting the deeper layers without causing harm to the top layers. The broadband light beams target highly pigmented melanin cells, warming them until they disintegrate and get reabsorbed into the body. The light energy is converted into heat, stimulating the body’s natural healing process, and promoting collagen and elastin production.

Whether you’re looking to reduce the appearance of age spots, sun damage, broken blood vessels, or rosacea, the IPL Photo Facial delivers impressive results. It’s more than just a facial—it’s a non-invasive, scientifically-proven technique to rejuvenate your skin from within.

What Does the IPL Laser Treat?

Many patients consider an IPL photo facial for a variety of skin concerns, including:

The face, neck, chest, and hands are popular treatment areas. However, the arms, back, and shoulders can also be treated with the intense pulsed light laser.

What Is the Difference Between an IPL Laser Treatment and a CoolPeel CO2 Laser Treatment?

While both IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) and CoolPeel CO2 Laser treatments are effective methods for skin rejuvenation, they differ significantly in their approach and results. IPL is a broad-spectrum light therapy that penetrates multiple layers of skin to target various skin concerns such as age spots, sun damage, and broken blood vessels. It converts light energy into heat, stimulating natural healing and collagen production.

CoolPeel CO2 Laser treatment uses a high-energy, ablative laser to vaporize the top layer of skin, triggering the body’s healing response and resulting in smoother, younger-looking skin. CoolPeel CO2 Laser is particularly effective for reducing the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, and acne scars. CoolPeel CO2 Laser provides more dramatic results, especially in addressing skin texture and the signs of aging.

At LUMEN, the IPL photo facial and CoolPeel treatment is a popular combination procedure. When working together, they more quickly improve skin tone and texture.

IPL Photo Facial Frequently Asked Questions

An intense pulsed light photo facial is effective for most skin types but is not suitable for darker skin types. While most patients are good candidates for a photo facial, pregnant women should wait until after delivery. IPL is also not appropriate for those with skin conditions in the treatment areas, such as infections, eczema, or herpes. If you have epilepsy or use photo-sensitive medication, you are not a candidate. If you take the acne drug Accutane, you must wait at least six months after treatment before undergoing IPL.

Patients must avoid too much sun or the use of tanning beds minimally for two weeks before treatment. You should also not have chemical peels or any waxing. Do not take aspirin or any other medication that could increase bleeding risk. On the day of your appointment, do not wear lotions or creams that could irritate the treatment area.

IPL laser does not usually hurt. Patients compare the pulse to the slight snapping of a rubber band. If needed, we can provide a numbing cream to enhance your comfort during the procedure.

Intense Pulsed Light treatments are safe and have a proven track record. Our licensed aesthetician has the training and years of experience to properly evaluate your skin, explain potential risks, and provide a treatment that ensures optimal results.

The most common side effects are darkened brown spots, redness and swelling, which usually resolve within one to five days.

IPL laser treatment time depends on how many areas are being treated. However, your treatment time will generally take less than one hour.

Spider veins can form on the cheeks or around the nose, and the IPL Photo Facial can help reduce their appearance. Lumen also offers transdermal laser therapy, which may be more appropriate for a large area on the face. Transdermal laser therapy is completely non-invasive and uses an external laser to heat the veins, causing them to close.

Improvement appears gradually after each treatment. Usually 3-5 treatments, spaced 4-6 weeks apart, are needed to see full results.

There is no downtime after the procedure, and you can resume normal activities. However, immediately following the procedure, you may feel some temporary discomfort. A cold compress applied to the area for 5 to 10 minutes usually provides effective relief. You may have some redness and swelling, which usually resolves within one to five days. Brown spots will normally crust over, get darker, and then flake off. This reveals healthier, younger-looking skin. While recovering, you will need to be diligent with moisturizer and sunscreen.
