How Does Renuvion/J-Plasma Work?

Renuvion is a truly innovative, precise procedure that can produce outstanding results. Renuvion Philadelphia can be used as a standalone procedure. Renuvion can also be used after Liposuction as a finishing effect to tighten and tone the skin. How it works: The handheld Renuvion device is inserted between the outer layer of skin and the underlying muscles. It delivers helium gas and radiofrequency (RF) energy, which converts to helium plasma. Renuvion emits a plasma beam that quickly heats to the ideal temperature to shrink the skin tissue in the targeted areas. Then the tissue is cooled in less than one second. This method safely and gently tightens loose skin at a level unrivaled by laser, radiofrequency, and ultrasound treatments. Renuvion kickstarts the healing and collagen-producing process, and the skin will further tighten over 6-9 months, revealing a more toned and youthful appearance.

The benefits of Renuvion are many, but it most importantly avoids an invasive tummy tuck surgery and the resulting hip-to-hip scar. Philadelphia patients often look years younger and have a more toned appearance after the Renuvion treatment.

The Renuvion/J-Plasma Procedure

The Renuvion Skin Tightening/J-Plasma procedure completely avoids open surgery. Only small nicks (“freckle indents”) in the skin (no stitches) and a tiny cannula are needed. We use local anesthesia, similar to what is provided at a dentist’s office. Recovery time is fairly short, with most Philadelphia patients back to work after 3-4 days.

Depending on the number and size of the areas, the procedure can last from 2-4 hours. The nonsurgical procedure for skin tightening involves these steps:

  • A saline solution containing a local anesthetic is infused on the treatment area so that you stay comfortable. 
  • Similar to liposuction, a tiny incision (3-5mm) is made in the skin. A tiny cannula (tube) containing the Renuvion wand is inserted beneath the skin through the small incisions. The wand emits helium gas and radiofrequency energy to surrounding tissue, which contracts collagen in your skin and tones small fat deposits.
  • During this process, Dr. Kwak monitors the temperature, timing, and location of the wand to make sure you receive a safe, effective treatment.
  • After the Renuvion/jplasma procedure, we'll place a bandage over the incision sites. Depending on where you received treatment, Dr. Kwak may also recommend wearing a compression garment to minimize swelling and support optimal healing.

Candidates for Renuvion Skin Tightening

Renuvion has been performed on men and women, ranging in age from 20-70+, who want to improve their skin quality. The procedure is ideal for anyone in or near Philadelphia who wants to avoid an invasive surgical procedure and skin excision. If you have mild to moderate sagging skin from aging or weight loss, you may also be a good candidate for Renuvion.

Downtime is also longer after a tummy tuck procedure, and most Philadelphia patients recover over a long weekend with Renuvion.

The Recovery Process

The recovery process after the Renuvion procedure is fairly short, with most people only taking 3-4 days off from work. Mild associated discomfort and bruising are common but short-lived side effects. Recovery time is much shorter with Renuvion compared to more invasive procedures.
