Liposuction FAQ

Do you eat right and exercise but still have problem areas where fat has accumulated? Or, do you want to achieve an ideal shape? Liposuction  is a safe, effective, and FDA-approved body contouring procedure to get rid of unwanted fat and bulges. It also has the added benefit of renewing your self-confidence. You may be wondering how it works, how it’s different from traditional liposuction, and what Lipo 360 can accomplish. We’re here to answer all of your questions and explain the process so you can make the best decision. Let’s answer some of the most frequently asked questions so you can determine if Liposuction is the solution you’ve been looking for.

How Does Laser Liposuction Work?

Laser Liposuction is a minimally-invasive liposuction procedure that uses laser energy to remove excess fat and tighten loose skin. Through very small incisions, the laser fiber goes into the layer of fat in the treated area using a small cannula, or tube. The heat from the laser causes the fat cells to liquify so they can be easily suctioned out of your body. It also encourages the body to produce collagen, giving your skin a firmer, smoother look.

Laser Liposuction delivers heat, but it does not damage the surrounding nerves, blood vessels, or soft tissues. Since the laser causes coagulation of nearby blood vessels immediately, there is significantly less bleeding with Laser Liposuction.

What Are Common Treatment Areas for the Liposuction Procedure?

Liposuction is designed to target common trouble spots that tend to collect fat deposits. These areas include:

Liposuction can be performed on several areas of the body at the same time. It can also be done in conjunction with other cosmetic surgery procedures, such as a Brazilian Butt Lift. Each Philadelphia patient has a unique body type and goals, and we create a customized treatment plan.

What Is Lipo 360?

Lipo 360 is a popular procedure for patients in Philadelphia who want comprehensive liposuction around the midsection of the body. It includes the abdomen, flanks (or love handles), and lower back areas. By completing this procedure 360 degrees around, you can create a more natural-looking, balanced appearance. Also, it eliminates unwanted fat in the waist and accentuates other curves (such as the buttocks).

The term “Lipo 360” is used to generically describe the areas the liposuction procedure treats. Lipo 360 doesn’t refer to a specific type of device or equipment. For more information, see our guide to the Lipo 360 procedure.

How Much Fat Can Be Removed with Liposuction?

The amount of fat that can be safely removed during the procedure varies from patient to patient. It depends on a number of factors, including: The amount of fat in the targeted area, the proportion of fat in your body, and your weight. You can expect that up to 90% of the subcutaneous (“pinchable”) fat in the treatment area will be removed. In general, the maximum amount of removable fat is up to 5 liters in a single session.

Who Is a Good Candidate for Liposuction?

The ideal candidate for Liposuction is at or below a body mass index (BMI) of 30, in good health, and looking to target common “problem” areas. According to the American Academy for Cosmetic Surgery, liposuction is not a solution for weight loss and should complement a healthy lifestyle. Both men and women, younger and older patients, have benefitted.

Skin elasticity is another factor. One of the biggest benefits of Liposuction is the skin tightening effect. However, the tightening effects work best for people with good skin elasticity. If your skin has good elasticity, the lasers can help firm and smooth your skin. In addition, we offer Renuvion® Skin Tightening, also known as J-Plasma and the nonsurgical tummy tuck. It is a revolutionary procedure for skin tightening that shrinks and sculpts sagging skin. Renuvion can be used in tandem with liposuction to maximize your results or as a standalone treatment on various areas of the body to tighten skin.

Although Liposuction can produce dramatic results, you and your surgeon should discuss realistic expectations for your situation before your liposuction surgery.

When Would I Start Seeing Results?

Many of our Philadelphia patients see results immediately or within a week after the procedure. The skin changes that occur with iposuction take longer. Skin will start firming up within 3-4 weeks and will continue to tighten over the next 4-6 months.

How Much Does Liposuction in Philadelphia Cost?

The average cost of  Liposuction at The Lumen Center in the Philadelphia area for one treatment area ranges from $4,000 to $8,000. However, many factors go into pricing and depend on the areas of the body and the number of areas where liposuction will be performed. The skills and experience of your team is also an important consideration. Dr. Andrew Kwak brings his nearly two decades of experience in cosmetic surgery and artistic eye to body contouring. These factors, and other body goals you may have, are considered when determining the cost.

Liposuction is an investment in yourself, and our Philadelphia patients consider it life-changing and well worth the money. You’ll walk out with more confidence and the body you’ve always wanted – and that’s priceless.
